About The Position

Children of Promise, NYC’s (CPNYC) reimagines a just society that values the purpose of every child impacted by mass incarceration and removes barriers to create opportunities for children to thrive and achieve their full potential. CPNYC’s mission is to support and advocate for the children of incarcerated parents while speaking out against root causes that affect the communities we serve, including systemic racism, poverty. and bias in our nation’s criminal justice system. CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children's centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. CPNYC provides an array of youth development programming and services tailored to each child's individual strengths and challenges and fosters a unique uplifting environment to foster hope and resilience. The Parent Coordinator is part of the administrative team working under the supervision of the Program Director. The Parent Coordinator will engage with and involve parents in the CPNYC’s community including parents with limited English proficiency by working with the Program Director, program staff, and the leadership team. This position focuses on creating a welcoming environment for parents. The Parent Coordinator will identify parent / program / community issues and work with the Program Director to come to a solution in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience, or comparable, with elementary or middle school students supporting their social-emotional well-being
  • Knowledge of OCFS programs
  • Experience communicating and supporting families using workshops, family interaction and intervention skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supporting families and students in educational settings.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population is helpful
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be capable of accessing and transmitting information using a computer
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point)

Responsibilities

  • Increases parent involvement in the program by working closely with all school / parent and community organizations.
  • Serves as facilitator for parent and program community concerns and issues including, for example, program policies or facilities issues.
  • Send out mass communication to parents via email, text blasts, bulletin boards postings and flyers
  • Assist in the coordination of parent workshops
  • Manage parent enrollment in CPNYC Mental Health & manage the flow of enrollment forms.
  • Conduct follow-up calls regarding participation
  • Assist in the overall recruitment and registration of participants
  • Provide support to Social Workers and Social Work Interns in preparation for their workshops
  • Serves as liaison between families and the program’s support staff
  • Provide general administrative and logistic support to the Program Director
  • Complete special projects as required under the direction of the supervisor
  • Manage the Parent Advisory Board
