About The Position

The Parent Support Specialist (PSS), under the supervision of the Clinical Director/Program Coordinator, is responsible for completing sufficient training, both at the outset of their work and on an ongoing basis. Workdirectly with those parents who have a higher need for target parenting skills. Provide individual and group parent coaching and support. Facilitate skill building, identification and use of natural supports, and use of community resources.

Requirements

  • Mental Health Professional or MHP - An individual who provides services under the supervision of a qualified mental health professional and who possesses: a bachelor's degree in counseling and guidance, rehabilitation counseling, social work, vocational counseling, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy, or related human service field (includes the following Child, Family, Community Services; Early Childhood Development; Counseling; Child and Family Services; Human Development Counseling; HumanServices; Psychiatry; Psychology; Social Science; Social Services; Sociology) OR Bachelor's degree in anyother field with two years of supervised clinical experience in a mental health setting.
  • Experience providing parenting support and/or experience in the child welfare setting.
  • Any individual meeting the minimum credentials for an MHP or QMHP under this Part. Any individual employed as an MHP prior to July 1, 2013 may continue to be so designated unless employment changes.
  • Valid State Driver’s License (In good standing). If moving to Illinois after position is accepted, mustobtain an Illinois Driver’s License within 30 days from Date of Hire.
  • Appropriate automobile insurance (at least state minimum)
  • CPR & First Aid Certification within 30 days from date of hire
  • Current physical and TB (PPD) test within 30 days of employment.
  • Signed employee acknowledgement of physical health and infection control responsibilities.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with wide groups of directors. Ability to make effective presentations.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

  • Qualified Mental Health Professional or QMHP - An individual who provides services under the supervision of a LPHA and who possesses: a Master's degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy or related human service field (includes the following Child, Family, Community Services; Early Childhood Development; Counseling; Child and Family Services; Human Development Counseling; Human Services; Psychiatry; Psychology; Social Services; Sociology) OR Master's degree in any other field with two years ofsupervised clinical experience in a mental health setting,
  • Experience providing parenting support and/or experience in the child welfare setting, previous parent coaching/training experience.
  • Bi-lingual skills a plus

Responsibilities

  • Consistently exemplifies Camelot Customer Service Standards and Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Provides parent support and coaching individually in home/community and in a group setting,utilizing Camelot’s preferred curriculum.
  • Connects with clients on a weekly basis and with the client’s case manager at least two (2) timesper month.
  • Completes all paperwork documentation weekly.
  • Attends all required supervision, meetings and consultations on time and prepared to fully participate.
  • Acts independently in position, able to schedule meetings with client and keep case managerinformed of progress in treatment with client.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings.
  • Ability to use their own vehicle for transportation of clients as needed, and must be able to providetheir own transportation to and from their assigned place of work.
  • Establishes relationships with the parents and engaging them in positive parenting skills
  • Works with parents on range of skills: i.e. positive discipline, relationship building, attachment, self-esteem, empowerment, age appropriate expectations.
  • Ability to work with clinical staff as part of a treatment team.
  • Ability to assist and support clients in accomplishing goals.
