About The Position

The Park Maintenance 2 – Tree Care position is responsible for assisting in the management of the District’s public lands. The goal is to preserve, protect, and sustainably manage our tree canopy while balancing wilderness protection with recreational activities in our beautiful and inspiring natural areas and parks. Under the direction and supervision of the Foreman Division Manager, the primary responsibilities include monitoring the health of trees through inspections, trimming and pruning, removals, and general tree care. Additional duties involve snow removal, setting up and taking down special events, trash collection, and performing other assigned tasks. Some weekend and evening work will be required. This is an at-will position.

Requirements

  • Ideal candidates will be reliable, self-motivated, and ambitious with a strong sense of safety.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in tree care and grounds maintenance work is required.
  • Experience with power tools and equipment used for tree trimming and other grounds maintenance.
  • An IL Pesticide Operator License or capacity to receive within 3 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to identify and care for trees and shrubs is required.
  • A valid IL Class C Driver’s License is required and must be maintained along with a safe driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required with additional coursework and/or related training preferred.
  • Must be in good physical condition to perform manual labor, stand/walk for extended periods, and have sufficient strength to lift and/or move 50 pounds or more on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions including extreme heat, humidity, cold, wind, snow, etc.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to maintain operations, support special events, etc.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certified or capacity to receive within 3 months of hire.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical with drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of tree pests and diseases, including identification, prevention and management is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required with additional coursework and/or related training preferred.
