About The Position

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES Facilities and Grounds Maintenance Performs Park maintenance work not requiring the skilled performance of a specific trade, including repairing buildings, tables, and barbeque grills. Installs and repairs chain link fencing. Assembles and repairs bleachers, picnic tables, and other park furnishings. Removes litter and empties trash containers. Applies fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides using hand-operated applicators. Athletic and Irrigation Support Assists in athletic field maintenance. Assists with irrigation repairs and installation. Equipment and Tools Operates various power tools, small equipment, and less complex groundskeeping equipment. Performs janitorial tasks related to facility upkeep.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions related to laboring tasks.
  • Knowledge of proper use of pesticides and herbicides.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in units of measure.
  • Knowledge of computer software and the Computerized Maintenance System program.
  • Skills in using common tools and equipment required for maintenance work.
  • Skills in operating multi-hand and foot controls.
  • Ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor.
  • Ability to follow and complete oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to concentrate on assigned tasks and maintain accurate simple records.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of twenty-five (25) pounds and up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to wear and use common safety equipment.
  • Ability to serve as a lead worker and trainer when assigned to work with Parks Maintenance Worker I staff.
  • Ability to work various schedules for short- or long-term assignments.
  • Must have six (6) months of experience in park system maintenance or a related field and have met the mandatory training requirements of a Parks Maintenance Worker I as defined by the Division.
  • A comparable amount of training and related experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  • Valid Driver’s license required; must obtain a Florida license upon employment. Must maintain a clean driving record to operate an assigned county vehicle.
  • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
