About The Position

The Part-Time Junior High Art Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate visual arts instruction to middle school students. This educator will foster a creative, supportive classroom environment that encourages artistic exploration, skill development, and self-expression. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (required)
  • Valid teaching certification or licensure for middle school art (preferred; may vary by state or school)
  • Prior experience teaching art to junior high students or similar age group
  • Strong knowledge of visual art techniques, materials, and curriculum design
  • Ability to create an inclusive, respectful, and inspiring classroom environment
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
  • To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must: Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
  • Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
  • Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
  • Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
  • Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
  • Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate art lessons that align with curriculum standards and support artistic growth
  • Introduce students to a wide range of techniques, media, and art styles—including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art (as applicable)
  • Incorporate elements of art history, cultural relevance, and contemporary practices into instruction
  • Foster a classroom culture that encourages creativity, respectful critique, and personal expression
  • Adapt lessons and instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students
  • Assess student progress through a variety of methods (projects, portfolios, reflections, etc.) and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Organize and curate student artwork for displays, exhibitions, and school/community events
  • Maintain inventory and manage safe use of art supplies and materials
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff on cross-curricular projects and school initiative
  • Communicate regularly and respectfully with parents and colleagues
  • Return phone calls and emails in a timely and professional manner
  • Demonstrate confidentiality, professionalism, and alignment with Catholic school values
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the administration
