The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND. Your Responsibilities As a Part-Time Student Software Engineer for John Deere Smart Connected Factory located in Waterloo, IA, you will be a member of an Agile development team, contributing as a full-stack developer. In this role, you will support both backend and frontend development for digital manufacturing solutions and assist product teams in writing, testing, and delivering functionality for manufacturing applications. You may also contribute to development documentation, including processes and best practices. Through this position, you will gain hands-on exposure to real-world engineering projects, contribute to the development and deployment of new solutions, and participate in architectural and technical design discussions. This role provides experience with a modern technology stack, including Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, SQL, Databricks, GitHub, Docker/Kubernetes, and Redis. This position is NOT available to students on immigration visas

Requirements

  • Demonstrated aptitude for web-development
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and adapt to changing environments
  • Foundational coding knowledge and effective problem-solving abilities
  • Must be registered as a full-time student at a local university
  • Seeking a degree in IT, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Graduation date of Spring 2027 or later
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
  • Must be able to commute to the work location in Warterloo, IA on a weekly basis year-round (NOTE: Relocation assistance is not provided)
  • Ability to work 30-40 hours during the summer semester
  • Ability to work 16-20 hours during the academic year

  • Experience in manufacturing
  • Experience in prior coding work either in industry or a student learning position
