About The Position

In a fractured political landscape, The Recount cuts through the noise. We’re a leading digital media brand reaching over 33 million monthly focused on news and culture through the lens of politics and policy. From the cost of living to World Cup geopolitics, ICE to Epstein, our world is changing fast and no one can afford to look away. Our goal is to engage audiences via storytelling that informs and entertains, at the intersection of our government and your life. The Recount is part of Caliber, a media company built to define a new era for journalism. Caliber is supported by a global network of creators, vetted by senior editorial talent and supported by a leading production team — all working together to cut through with purpose, context and credibility. From breaking news to emerging trends, we deliver stories that matter, shaped by robust measurement and a deep understanding of digital platforms. The Role We are hiring a US Partnerships Manager for our US news & politics brand, The Recount. A new hire, you will spearhead the commercial launch and growth of the publication’s newsletter network. This is a pivotal role focused on monetizing a scalable collective of independent newsletters, which maintains creator autonomy while offering brand partners access to high-level decision-makers in key sectors. Your primary goal is to establish The Recount as a leading destination for thought-leadership advertising. You will be responsible for fostering relationships with US brand partners, increasing client counts within niche, politics-adjacent verticals (think Public Health, Energy, or Economics), and driving revenue through innovative newsletter sponsorships and corporate partnerships.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in media sales, specifically selling newsletter sponsorships, digital advertising, or corporate partnerships.
  • Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of the US political and news media landscape, with a specific interest in thought leadership and niche vertical monetization.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in the entire sales lifecycle, from cold prospecting and drafting pitch decks to negotiating commercials and closing deals.
  • Network: An established rolodex of brands, media agencies, and public affairs consultancies looking to reach high-value, professional audiences.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: A self-starter who thrives in a startup environment and is excited by the challenge of launching a new network product.
  • Mission-Driven: A passion for supporting independent creators while maintaining high standards for brand safety and editorial integrity.
  • A Newsletter-First Mindset: You understand the unique intimacy of the inbox and how to sell sponsorship products that feel organic rather than intrusive to a subscriber audience.
  • Vertical Expertise: Proven ability to navigate complex sectors such as Public Health, Energy, or Economics, with a knack for identifying the specific "end buyers" who value access to these decision-makers.
  • Strategic Adaptability: Comfort pivoting between selling high-volume ad packages and high-touch strategic extensions like virtual salons, policy briefings, and regional summits.
  • A Collaborative Spirit: An empathetic approach to working with creator independent creators, ensuring their editorial autonomy remains intact while you maximize their monetization performance.
  • Data-Driven Storytelling: Proficiency in using unified reporting and multi-publication analytics to build a compelling public case study for the success of our vertical networks.
  • The Startup Hustle: A proactive, can-do attitude with the resilience to build a "capabilities-first" pilot into a sustainable, long-term revenue stream.
  • Integrity and Standards: A commitment to brand safety and objective journalism, ensuring all partnerships align with the core principles of Caliber and The Recount.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Prospecting: Develop and execute a multi-channel strategy to identify partners interested in brand-safe, politics-adjacent inventory (e.g., Gov-Tech, Climate Policy, and Public Health).
  • Market Education: Educate the US market, media agencies, and public affairs consultancies on The Recount Network’s value proposition, focusing on our ability to reach niche, influential audiences.
  • Proposal Creation: Craft compelling proposals — responsive and proactive — for newsletter sponsorships, virtual series, policy briefings, and roundtables.
  • Pipeline Management: Grow and maintain an accurate sales pipeline, providing unified reporting and post-campaign readouts for clients.
  • Drive Revenue: Consistently hit and exceed revenue targets by selling centralized sponsorship packages, multi-title buys, and category-specific inventory.
  • Networking: Represent The Recount at industry events to drive new business leads and stay ahead of trends in the newsletter and digital media landscape.

Benefits

  • Health insurance: medical, dental, and vision
  • 401(k) savings and retirement plan with employer match
  • Generous paid vacation policy
  • Hybrid work environment: 4 days/week in our Manhattan office
  • Potential stock option incentives or stock appreciation rights
