Job Description Peterson Cat has the immediate need for a Parts Sales Trainee based at The Dalles, OR location. SUMMARY The Parts Sales Trainee works under close guidance and supervision to develop proficiency with Parts department sales, shipping and receiving, inventory, and hose-building functions. This role is expected to continuously build product knowledge and learn to interpret customer requests, make parts recommendations, and complete Parts department functions accurately and efficiently.

  • Must possess reliable transportation that enables punctual, regular, and predictable attendance regardless of weather conditions.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a minimum of 6 months of parts, warehouse, and/or sales, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain Lift Truck Operator Certificate required.
  • Ability to obtain Hazardous Materials Certification required.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to obtain DOT Medical Certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Lift truck operation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret walk-in and telephone customer parts requests.
  • Make high value recommendations to customers relating to parts and service needs.
  • Maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with both established and new customers.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of company products, services, and parts including the costs of each.
  • Complete all necessary transaction documents in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Fill parts orders for shop and field technicians that may require determining the correct part and/or part numbers by using computer software, systems, databases, and other information resources.
  • Order parts from manufacturers or outside vendors by preparing purchase orders and other appropriate purchase documents.
  • Process return parts from service department or customers issuing credit memos and restocking parts.
  • Keep service department informed on the status of any back ordered items.
  • Assist service department in preparing quotes by researching and pricing parts.
  • Operate lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to trucks, storage, or work areas.
  • Remove parts and components from shipping containers and place them in the proper location.
  • Remove parts from storage to fill customer orders, parts counter requests, and service department requests.
  • Build hoses per customer verbal instructions, written directions, or physical samples.
  • Process parts returns and restock in proper location.
  • Perform inventory counts as directed.
  • Work overtime as needed and within labor law guidelines.
  • Operate company vehicle up to 25% of the time to pick up and/or deliver parts.
  • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customers/ coworkers, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully take direction from supervisor/manager.
