About The Position

Operations Management • Oversee the day-to-day functions of the pathology laboratory, including workflow coordination, staffing, and resource management • Monitor specimen turnaround times, volume trends, and quality metrics, implementing corrective actions as needed • Maintain laboratory instrumentation, equipment records, and supply inventory • Serve as operational liaison between laboratory staff, pathologists, and clinical leadership Technical Coverage • Perform technical laboratory functions on an as-needed basis to support staffing gaps, high-volume periods, or training needs • Maintain proficiency and competency in applicable laboratory disciplines (e.g., histology, specimen processing, or relevant section as defined by department) • Ensure staff competency through direct observation and assessment Policy & Procedure Development • Author, review, and maintain all internal laboratory policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) • Ensure policies are aligned with CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements • Coordinate periodic policy review cycles and manage version control and documentation • Develop and implement corrective action plans resulting from audits, inspections, or quality events People Management • Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate laboratory staff • Manage scheduling, attendance, and departmental coverage • Conduct performance reviews and support staff professional development • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement Regulatory & Compliance • Maintain lab readiness for CAP, CLIA, and applicable state inspections and accreditation surveys • Oversee quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance programs • Ensure proper documentation practices are followed across all laboratory sections Administrative & Financial • Assist with budget monitoring and expense management • Track and report departmental KPIs to leadership • Participate in vendor management and supply procurement

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Lab, Chemistry, Biology or related field.
  • Experience may be substituted for education as described by State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel Statutes.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Clinical laboratory experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role
  • HT or HTL (ASCP) or equivalent certification
  • Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor's license in the specialty of Histology
  • Demonstrated ability to perform high quality histologic technical functions independently
  • Working knowledge of COLA, CAP, CLIA, and OSHA regulations and requirements
  • Experience writing and maintaining laboratory policies and SOPs
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Experience in anatomic/surgical pathology settings
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Prefer a familiarity with multi-site or multi-specialty healthcare environments
