As a Patient Access Representative in the ED, you will deliver an exceptional experience to patients, families, and visitors from the moment they arrive until they leave. You will assist with registration, information gathering, insurance verification, and payment collection, providing a comprehensive set of business and financial services during the patient access process. This position floats to all West Side hospitals, including Avon, Lutheran, and Fairview. This role is a great steppingstone to others within Customer Service and various departments within Cleveland Clinic. This is a regular PRN position with caregivers working evening and night rotations from 3:00 p.m. -- 11:30 p.m. or 10:30 p.m. -- 7:00 a.m., requiring a minimum of 48 hours per six-week schedule, including one weekend and one holiday. Weekend coverage includes a 4- or 8-hour shift starting after 3:00 p.m. Friday and ending on or after 7:00 a.m. Monday. This role will float to all West Side hospitals, including Avon, Lutheran and Fairview.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma OR GED and two years of experience in a customer-facing role with in person or phone contact OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Knowledge of medical terminology OR completion of course within year of hire
  • Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform registration and obtain information about demographics, insurance, medical and financial.
  • Crosstrain to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED and cash register.
  • Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training of new caregivers.
  • Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.
  • Rotate to different locations/hospitals based on staffing needs.
