Patient Access Specialist I (Full-time/Miles City)

About the position

Billings Clinic is seeking a Patient Access Specialist I for our Miles City Clinic. This full-time position involves greeting and registering patients, gathering demographic and insurance information, scheduling appointments, and ensuring the efficient flow of patient access needs. The role requires a thorough understanding of the impact of accurate information on the revenue cycle and may involve floating to other areas within the clinic to assist with patient flow.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and identifies any red flag symptoms requiring triage/assessment by nurse.
• Completes online registration information gathering complete demographic and insurance information.
• Schedules, reschedules, and coordinates appointments to meet patient needs.
• Initiates collection of co-payments and accepts payments on accounts.
• Assists walk-in patients with non-encounter-based access.
• Coordinates with patients, providers, and nursing staff to ensure necessary authorizations are obtained.
• Performs patient check out and procedure scheduling processes.
• Monitors waiting areas to ensure cleanliness and optimize patient flow.
• Responsible for pre-review of charge tickets for completeness.
• Receives and distributes incoming faxes, mail, freight, and packages.
• Answers and directs physician and consumer telephone calls.
• Performs duties of HIM Specialist I including phones, filing, scanning, and chart pulls.
• Provides basic backup support for the Technical Assistant and/or Manager.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Some college or healthcare focused classes preferred.
• Customer service experience.
