About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine , as a Patient Care Manager in the Comer Emergency Room department. Comer Children's Hospital located in Hyde Park, is a state-of-the-art 172-bed hospital dedicated to caring for infants, children, teens and young adults. Comer Emergency Department is a Level 1 Pediatric Academic Trauma Center dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based care to the children of South Side of Chicago and beyond. With 2 trauma bays, 1 special procedures room and a dedicated resuscitation bay, we are equipped to handle the most critical situations. We are proud to be recognized as an exemplary pediatric emergency department, having received the Emergency Nurses Association’s prestigious Lantern Award for 2024-2027. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity . You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. The Patient Care Manager has the responsibility and accountability with the Nursing and Medical Directors for planning, organizing and directing of all activities related to patient-centered care, fostering nursing excellence and the retention and recruitment of staff on a designated unit in the care center.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • Three years of clinical experience in Emergency Medicine
  • Charge Nurse experience with demonstrated leadership skills
  • BLS Certification through the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among staff members, care center and sector leadership, and other health care professionals and departments.

  • Uses a broad theoretical knowledge base and the principles of patient centered care to assist in the establishment of patient centered care standards.
  • Demonstrates clinical and leadership skills, serving as a role model for staff members.
  • Recognizes and identifies clinical practice problems and facilitates solutions.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the budget within established guidelines.
  • Schedules staff in accordance with patient care needs and union contracts.
  • Provides and supports an environment which encourages staff to accept responsibility for learning as part of the development of their own professional practice.
  • Complies with standards and regulations of various licensing, regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Demonstrates awareness of and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
