About The Position

This position functions as both a Patient Care Tech (PCT) and Health Unit Coordinator (HUC). A Patient Care Tech functions as a clinical support partner assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. A Health Unit Coordinator, under the direction of nursing leadership, facilitates unit organization and patient care by assisting in the coordination of patient, nursing, physician and other health care provider office and clerical activities. πŸ“ Location: Orem Community Hospital – Orem, Utah 🏒 Department/Unit: Labor and Delivery πŸ’΅ Pay: Starting at $18.22+ (based on patient care experience) πŸ“… Shifts: Part-time | 24 hours/week | Two 12-hour shifts πŸ•’ Schedule: Variable, mix of days, evenings, swings, nights, weekends & holidays. 🎁 Benefits: Health, Vision, Dental, 401(K), Education Assistance & more! This is a Certified Nursing Assistant position that will work Patient Care Tech and Health Unit Coordinator shifts. Will learn to Scrub for C-Section within 90 days of hire. If Scrub trained starting pay at $18.75+. Join our Labor and Delivery unit specialized for pregnant individuals to give birth, offering comfortable amenities and medical technology. We provide a range of services, from routine and high-risk pregnancy care to pain management options, and are staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, RNs, certified nursing assistants (scrub techs), anesthesiologists, and other specialists available 24/7. We handle emergency situations like C-sections and have on-site operating rooms for immediate access.

Requirements

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • At the time of hire, Utah candidates must meet one of the following certification requirments: Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in the state of Utah. If CNA certificate is expired, must be renewed before start date. Completion of a recent Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program. Verification of CNA program completion is required (program must have been completed within the past (1) year). CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire. Completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing Course. Must have earned a passing grade within the past two (2) years. Official transcript is required. CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes and delivers basic patient care which may include toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs.
  • Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
  • Provides excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests.
  • Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner.
  • Reports changes in the patient condition quickly and secures qualified assistance as needed.
  • Based on unit, may also be responsible for telemetry duties.
  • Can function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patient, taking care of patient care needs, and involving other members of the patient care team as needed.
  • When working on a clinical unit, may be required to take medications from the delivery system to the RN.
  • Collaborates and consults with RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team for best patient care.
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.
  • Performs non-nursing duties as delegated (e.g., cleaning, stocking, answering phones, clerical support, providing directions).
  • Implements plan of care as delegated.
  • Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice and performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards.
  • Fosters a safe environment by complying with the safety policy and taking appropriate action in an emergency.
  • Answer patient call lights.
  • Schedules tests and treatments as ordered.
  • May provide access control to visitor entrance to secure units.
  • Answers unit telephones and disseminates information appropriately.
  • Processes, organizes, files and maintains patient and unit records.
  • Transcribes physician orders.
  • Acts as unit receptionist.
  • May organize, stock and maintain supplies on the unit.
  • Ensures that the patient room is ready to receive the patient with equipment and supplies necessary during the labor and delivery process.
  • May be responsible for maintaining and stocking birthing rooms appropriately.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs of patients and newborns before, during, and after delivery.
  • Prepares the room for vaginal delivery by draping the patient and preparing appropriate equipment, including the delivery table, and assists the RN.
  • Prepares the room for C-Section by preparing the patient, scrubbing for procedures, setting up and passing instruments, and completing all instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with the RN.
  • Ensures sterility is maintained throughout the operative procedure.
  • Understands the plan of care and delivers basic patient care by collecting and documenting patient data and reporting patient changes to the RN.
