About the position

The position involves providing patient care under the supervision of the Staff Nurse. Responsibilities include assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), specimen collection (non-invasive), transportation of patients (unmonitored), patient preparation for procedures, collection of vital signs, and performing unit-specific procedures and tasks that require documented competencies. The role is crucial in fulfilling Houston Healthcare's mission, values, and quality commitment. The individual will participate as a team member to ensure that appropriate resources are available to all internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
  • Perform specimen collection (non-invasive)
  • Transport patients (unmonitored)
  • Prepare patients for procedures
  • Collect vital signs
  • Perform unit-specific procedures and tasks requiring documented competencies
  • Participate as a team member to ensure resources are available to customers

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • One (1) year experience as a patient care tech or similar title in a hospital
  • Two (2) years patient care assisting experience in other health care facilities may substitute for hospital experience
  • One (1) year experience as a medical technician or hospital corpsman in the U.S. Armed Forces may substitute for hospital experience
  • Current enrollment in clinical portion of a nursing program or completion of PCT, CNA or Medical Assistant program eliminates experience requirements
  • Current AHA-BLS certification
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, hospital professional services, documentation, anatomy & physiology, infection control, vital signs, medical records, assistance with physical exams, specimen collection, and patient-focused care
