About The Position
The Patient Care Tech PRN in the Emergency Department plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This position is responsible for assisting nursing staff with direct patient care activities, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and timely response to their needs. The role requires adaptability to fluctuating patient volumes and acuity levels, providing essential support during peak times .The Patient Care Tech acts as a vital liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team, contributing to a positive patient experience. Ultimately, this position helps maintain efficient emergency department operations by delivering compassionate, attentive, and skilled care on an as-needed basis.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Patient Care Technician training program or equivalent experience.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to work flexible schedule; nights, weekends; holidays, days.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and composure.
- Ability to follow and comprehend verbal and written instructions
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience working in an emergency department or acute care setting.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Responsibilities
- Assist nursing staff with basic patient care tasks such as vital signs monitoring, hygiene assistance, and mobility support.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests, ensuring patient comfort and safety at all times.
- Prepare and maintain patient care areas, including cleaning and restocking supplies to support infection control standards.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior to the nursing team to facilitate timely interventions.
- Support patient transport within the facility, including movement to diagnostic tests or treatment areas.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care delivery.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to patient care and safety.
