About The Position

The OR Support Assistant I supports the Operating Room staff by preparing case carts, maintaining supplies and equipment, and maintaining a safe and functional environment for all age groups.

Requirements

  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • Completion of state recognized CNA program; or Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum or VCU/MCV BSN students - completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261 or Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs - completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses. Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinical rotation in that area; or Completion of EMT program; or Completion of medical assistant program; or One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of care partner or equivalent work experience within the last three (3) years; or One (1) year of military corpsman experience within the last three (3) year
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
  • Ability to work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to lift 50-100 lbs.
  • Ability to perform prolonged standing, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), repetitive motion
  • Ability to problem solve, speak clearly, write legibly, read, and use logical thinking
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment, maintain a steady pace, handle multiple priorities, manage frequent and intense customer interactions, and adapt to a noisy environment and frequent change

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months – 1 year working in an Operating Room environment strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and supplies preferred.
  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask.
