About The Position

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for performing patient care under the direction of an RN, Licensed Physician, or Mid-level provider.  The Patient Care Technician will perform duties in the areas of direct and indirect patient care such as patient triage, laboratory procedures, EKG, ADLs, transporting patients, exam room turnover, restocking of supplies and linens, clerical duties, and documentation in a medical health record.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma, GED, or related vocational training required. 
  • 1 year of experience in an acute setting patient care role is preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in emergency trauma is preferred.
  • Comfortable with technology.
  • One of the following is required:  Illinois Department of Public Health EMT certification or National Registry EMT (NREMT) certification
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire date. 
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Deductive reasoning.
  • Ability to work under pressure with accuracy.
  • Ability to shift work schedule/hours as business needs require.
  • Excellent attendance in previous work environment.
  • Demonstrates strong computer skills and knowledge of computer software programs.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience in an acute setting patient care role is preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in emergency trauma is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in answering phones and prioritize calls for physician, nurse and receptionist.
  • Stock exam rooms, patient care carts, specialty carts, replace and restock linens, and clean according to Infection Control Policies.
  • Adhere to clinic performance and safety standards.
  • Assist in the rooming and admission of patients, (i.e. obtaining vitals and document results into the HER under own log, interview patient to determine chief complaint as well as history, and document information in medical record fill in history of present illness to be reviewed by provider and patient)
  • Assists in the preparation of the patient for physician exam and/or examination of the patient
  • Order diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures according to physician's order.
  • Maintain communication with patient and/or family and provide patient and/or family education, reinforcing all patient teaching under provider’s direction.
  • Adhere to, comply with, and reinforce all Springfield Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Make decision regarding priority and disposition of patient complaints. Report appropriate information to supervisor. 
  • May perform office procedures such as but not limited to sterile urine cath, suture removal, staple removal or removal of casts under the direction of a NP, PA, or physician.
  • Perform pre-certifications/referral for insurance companies as necessary.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
