About The Position

The Patient Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for managing complex patient scheduling, including multi-service appointments, diagnostic tests, and surgeries, ensuring timely access and adherence to regulatory requirements. The role verifies insurance coverage, secures prior authorizations, and updates patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, ensuring accuracy and compliance. The role also coordinates with clinic staff, mentors junior staff, and contributes to process improvements to optimize patient scheduling and access. Why UnityPoint Health? Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is .
  • At least three years of customer service or healthcare related experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Business Administration , Healthcare, or another related field is preferred.
  • Three or more years’ experience working in a medical office performing duties such as scheduling, patient check-ins, insurance verification, and maintaining medical records is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex scheduling and rescheduling for appointments, procedures, diagnostic tests, surgeries, and hospital admissions across multiple providers, ensuring compliance with protocols and regulations.
  • Greet and check in patients, assist with required forms, and prioritize urgent cases to support timely access to care.
  • Coordinate multi service appointments, manage high volume phone calls, and streamline scheduling workflows.
  • Work closely with clinic staff and patients to secure pre certifications , insurance details, and financial information.
  • Provide patients with appointment instructions, pre visit requirements, and clear communication to support understanding.
  • Verify insurance coverage, obtain prior authorizations, and arrange interpreter services or special accommodations as needed.
  • Organize departmental records and prepare patient outcome reports to support timely follow up and communication
