UW Medical Center-Montlake - Admitting Department has an outstanding opportunity to hire a Patient Services Specialist 2 WORK SCHEDULE 100% FTE (40 hours per week) 6:00am-3:30pm; Monday - Friday Day shift POSITION HIGHLIGHTS Responsible for facilitating patient admissions, transfers, and discharges Perform clerical duties in support of the unit Be part of a team committed to the UW Medicine mission where Patients Are First PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Register patients and verify, collect, and update demographic and financial information Determine eligibility for care, assign payor plans, and verify insurance benefits for emergency and planned services Obtain authorizations and necessary signatures for consents; complete Medicare as a Secondary Payor forms; collect co-pays or patient liabilities Respond to patient inquiries and provide directions within the medical center Assist patients and families via phone and in person while maintaining confidentiality of patient information Triage phone calls to clinical staff and gather necessary info for return calls or emergencies Communicate with patients, providers, and external agencies regarding financial arrangements, protocols, billing procedures, and insurance coverage Assist patients in completing paperwork, including insurance forms May coordinate death procedures and handle documentation Participate in testing or implementing new systems or processes Advocate for patients and families, helping them connect with appropriate staff and safeguarding privacy REQUIREMENTS High School graduation or equivalent One year of healthcare or administrative experience Equivalent education/experience may substitute for required qualifications ABOUT UW MEDICAL CENTER - MONTLAKE Located in Seattle, UW Medical Center is an acute care academic medical center with two campuses—Montlake and Northwest.
