About The Position

The Payroll Supervisor is a salaried, exempt role responsible for overseeing end-to-end payroll operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant compensation for all employees. This position provides leadership to payroll staff, ensures compliance with all applicable payroll laws, and partners closely with HR and Finance to support organizational objectives. The role also supports HRIS payroll-related system implementations, ongoing system maintenance, and compliance pay reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including supervisory or lead responsibility
  • Experience managing payroll populations; multi-state experience preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements
  • Strong proficiency with payroll and HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, UKG, Paychex, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel and payroll reporting skills
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • High level of accuracy, discretion, and integrity
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline driven environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and ADP Lyric preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the processing of payroll, including bonuses, incentive pay, and deductions
  • Supervise payroll staff and assign daily workloads to ensure deadlines are consistently met
  • Review and approve payroll registers and reconciliation reports prior to submission
  • Act as escalation point for complex payroll inquiries and issue resolution
  • Maintain accurate payroll records while ensuring confidentiality and data security
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax regulations
  • Manage payroll tax filings, benefit deductions, garnishments, and other statutory withholdings
  • Lead year-end payroll activities including W-2 preparation and distribution
  • Prepare and support compliance pay reporting, including but not limited to wage and hour audits, pay equity reporting, government-mandated filings, and internal compensation analyses
  • Partner with HR and Legal to respond to payroll-related audits, inquiries, and regulatory requests
  • Support HRIS system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements related to payroll processing, time and attendance, and time off modules
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll-related HRIS functionality, ensuring accurate system configuration and data integrity
  • Maintain and administer payroll-related system settings, earnings codes, deductions, accruals, and compliance rules
  • Collaborate with HR, IT, and vendors to troubleshoot system issues, test changes, and validate payroll system updates
  • Ensure proper integration and alignment between payroll, timekeeping, and time off systems to support accurate pay calculations
  • Partner with HR on new hires, terminations, salary changes, benefit updates, and leave administration
  • Coordinate with Finance, auditors, and external payroll and HRIS vendors as needed
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and payroll system enhancements
