We're seeking an experienced Payroll Team Leader to lead our monthly salaried and executive payroll function , ensuring accurate, compliant and timely payroll delivery across multiple business groups. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll combine deep payroll expertise with people leadership, process improvement and strong stakeholder engagement. About the role: Reporting to the Senior Manager, Payroll , you will lead a dedicated team and oversee end‑to‑end payroll delivery for salaried and executive employees across Logistics, BevChain, Armaguard, Property, Private and Airport Groups. You’ll act as a 2IC to the Senior Manager, supporting audit, governance, controls and business continuity, while driving continuous improvement across payroll processes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading payroll teams in medium to large organisations.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance.
  • Experience with SAP payroll systems.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet critical deadlines.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency and quality.
  • Finance‑related degree (ideally accounting background)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Payroll Team Leader or similar role
  • Demonstrated experience managing salaried payroll functions

Responsibilities

  • Lead accurate, compliant and timely monthly payroll processing.
  • Oversee end‑to‑end payroll activities including EOM, off‑cycle payments and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation (STP, tax, super, payroll tax, WorkCover).
  • Manage internal controls, audits and segregation of duties.
  • Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing payroll team.
  • Partner with Finance, HR, IR, IT and business leaders.
  • Drive continuous improvement, automation and process simplification.
  • Utilise reporting tools (e.g. Spinifex) to support labour cost management.
  • Support payroll projects and contribute to board‑level reporting.
