About The Position

A Peace Officer examination to fill vacancies in the Department of Public Safety will be administered and limited to the first 250 applicants in order of application. A description of the position is below: Union: Co-op City PBA Salary: 25.6477 Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Perform duty in uniform as directed by competent authority. Patrol assigned areas and monitor activities to ensure that the Community, its members and property is protected. This includes being highly visible in the community through active policing. Investigate offenses and apprehend suspected violators and/or issue summonses. Prepare and/or maintain routine or required reports and records as necessary. Gather evidence to assist in positive outcomes for successful prosecutions; Respond to routine and emergency situations, events and incidents. Coordinate operations with other first responders and emergency services. Foster good public relationships and liaise with community groups or individuals. Enforce and adhere to New York City/State Laws and Regulations, and rules stipulated by the governing board in Co-op City. Maintain working knowledge of departmental operational directives and guidelines. Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned. Note: Must qualify for and maintain a NYC Special Patrolman License and qualify for and maintain a New York City Firearm License. Must maintain NYS Drivers' License, in good standing

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs
  • Must reside within the five (5) Boroughs of NYC
  • Must be 21 years of age at time of hire
  • Must qualify for and maintain a NYC Special Patrolman License and qualify for and maintain a New York City Firearm License.
  • Must maintain NYS Drivers' License, in good standing

Nice To Haves

  • Technical School, Associate’s Degree or higher, a plus
  • Prior law enforcement work experience, a plus
  • Certifications and Licenses (e.g. EMT, CPR, AED, Emergency First Aid), a plus
