SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of Pediatric Nursing Leadership, the Pediatric Behavioral Interventionist is responsible for the safety and implementation of therapeutic intervention and programming of the assigned patient(s). Works with other members of the multidisciplinary team, through an integrative care approach, develops a daily schedule, implements behavior plans, and establishes a therapeutic environment for those in their care. In accordance with various state and federal regulatory requirements the Pediatric Behavioral Interventionist is also responsible for implementation, observation, and documentation of this program the care provided under the direction of the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrates appropriate critical incident follow-up skills through timely verbal reporting to the Registered Nurse and documentation in the medical record. Completes other documentation applicable to the event, including safety event reporting system. Assists the RN in care of behavioral health patients, following the lead of the RN. Documents any care provided and communicates to the care team any suggestions to enhance therapeutic care. Handles crisis situations in a safe, effective manner which is consistent with Lifespan's policies and procedures. Demonstrates ability to set consistent and supportive therapeutic limits within guidelines and standards of the unit, hospital, department, and corporation. Actively engages with assigned child(ren) throughout the shift. Manages aggressive/destructive behavior by providing timely therapeutic interventions. Assists in placing patients in seclusion and/or restraints according to policy and procedures. Assists in patient, belongings, and room searches, as assigned. Assists in transporting patients to designated safe room and/or location Assists with constant observer and safety watch break coverage Assist RN in wanding patients to maintain patient safety and changing patients into hospital approved behavioral health safe scrubs Assists with distribution of meal trays ensuring they are behavioral health safe and adhering to any documented allergies Participates in the development of therapeutic behavior plans Demonstrates analytical skills and an understanding of psychiatric illnesses and developmental disorders to provide an integrative approach to care by acting as a liaison between clinical teams. Through therapeutic rapport, creates, participates, and organizes therapeutic and recreational activities to meet the psychosocial and developmental needs of patients in their care. Supports and contributes to the development of behavioral treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary, integrative care team. Communicates individual patient plans in an ongoing manner to the members of the multidisciplinary treatment team throughout the day to modify these plans as clinically necessary. Demonstrates and consistently models interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patient/families as well as other members of the multidisciplinary team. Adheres to corporate, hospital, departmental, and unit policies and procedures: Maintains current CPR certification. Maintains current certification in crisis management. Attends peer review, supervision, and staff meetings as assigned. Consistently follows all program-based policies and procedures. Attends staff development as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
