About The Position

Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) is recruiting a full-time faculty member, open rank to provide pediatric pathology services. The clinical laboratory is an 18,000 square-foot modern facility with state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained personnel, performing over 1.5 million tests annually. The Department of Pathology at Children’s Hospital Colorado receives about 11,000 surgical cases, 2,700 cytology cases, 650 bone marrows, 500 surgical pathology consultation cases, 50-70 autopsies, and over 10,000 molecular oncology tests annually. The CHCO Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) includes 20 faculty, including 9 board-certified pediatric pathologists, 3 hematopathologists, 1 neuropathologist, 6 molecular pathologists, 6 transfusion medicine pathologists, serving one of the most complex pediatric laboratories in the country. Nature of Work We are looking to recruit another pediatric pathologist to our team with a primary focus on pediatric anatomic pathology, though additional subspecialization would be welcome, especially in the areas of informatics, bone and soft tissue pathology, molecular pathology, autopsy, cytopathology, renal and/or gastrointestinal pathology. Leadership opportunities are available, particularly as the Medical Director of Pediatric Anatomic Pathology.

Requirements

  • Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology +/- Clinical Pathology with additional board certification in Pediatric Pathology or Pediatric Pathology board eligible.
  • 2-5 years of experience (Assistant Professor)
  • 5-10 years of experience (Associate Professor)
  • 10+ years of experience (Professor)

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2-3 years’ experience as a practicing pediatric pathologist

Responsibilities

  • Surgical pathology services
  • Gross and microscopic examination of general pediatric surgical pathology specimens including tumor biopsies and resections; medical liver, renal, cardiac biopsies, endoscopic gastrointestinal biopsies, placentas
  • Results reporting using Epic Beaker
  • Autopsy coverage during weekdays
  • Frozen sections
  • Call coverage to include after hours and weekend frozen sections, specimen triage, urgent biopsies, and rare emergency autopsy procedures
  • Resident, fellow, and medical student clinical teaching
  • Supporting multidisciplinary conferences
  • Participation in the CHCO DPLM quality program
  • Engage in scholarship, as broadly defined in the matrix of the University of Colorado School of Medicine
