About The Position

Provide peer mentoring and academic support to students.

Requirements

• Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
• Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
• Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Nice To Haves

• Current TAMIU student with 60 SCH or more at the time of appointment.
• Experience working with college/university students in an educational setting.
• Ability to identify TAMIU resources and the connected office associated with support initiatives.

• Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications.
• Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.
• Outstanding customer service skills.
• Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.

• Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.

Responsibilities

• Perform peer mentoring and academic advising to program participants.
• Meet individually with students weekly.
• Maintain current and confidential records and information.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with all University staff.
• Prepare written reports related to student mentoring and other related assignments.
• Meet regularly with the program’s Supervisor for staff meetings, training, and/or workshops.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Communicate weekly with students who are absent from mentor meetings
• Assist in developing, organizing, and presenting at Proyecto Amigo workshops and events.
• Meet regularly with Proyecto Amigo program manager for staff meetings, training, and/or workshops.
