About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY The Peer Navigator (PN) is responsible for providing information, support, referrals, and assistance to guests experiencing homelessness who come to Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) for help.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (general education diploma/GED).
  • Colorado Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS) or Colorado Certified Addictions Technician (CAT) certification preferred.
  • Active Driver’s License as a limited amount of work-related travel may be required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Denver Rescue Mission Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and responsiveness to communication.
  • Ability to resolve conflict professionally and respectfully while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows software applications and ability to learn SCRIBE and Clarity systems.
  • Ability to follow highly detailed workflows.
  • Ability to hold appropriate boundaries with those we serve.
  • Must have lived experience in homelessness as defined by US Department of Housing and Urban Development and been stably housed for two years or have been in recovery from substance misuse for two years minimum.

  • Colorado Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS) or Colorado Certified Addictions Technician (CAT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in ongoing training as assigned by direct supervisor and leadership team.
  • Knowledge of resources and social services available in the Denver area.
  • Leads presentations for guests about various programs.
  • Provide documentation during community provider meetings on behalf of guests.
  • Assist participants with navigating online resources, such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on Colorado Program Eligibility and Application Kit (PEAK) system.
  • Attend and engage in weekly and monthly meetings as assigned.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and professional boundaries when working with guests.
  • Actively assist guests with tasks such as finding service locations, understanding operating hours, and prioritizing service provider appointments
  • Provide referrals to agencies and resources, applications and documents, or referrals to a more stable environment such as long-term beds at DRM and other partnering agencies.
  • Conduct strategic outreach of guests for case management engagement
  • Administrate all service records and case management records in Scribe internal participant database and Clarity.
  • Collaborate with Case Management regarding guests as it involves housing resolution tasks and filling out paperwork and documentation for services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
