About The Position

Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor, operating in the Central Texas region with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Our operations complete heavy highway and civil projects throughout Texas. Position Overview The Pelican Plant C Operator will work closely with the Plant, Maintenance, and Management Teams to ensure consistent and high-level functionality off all aspects of operations with direction provided by his/her direct manager to minimize downtime and optimize production. The ideal candidate has experience with processing, loading, shipping, and a thorough understanding of all areas related to asphalt work. They should be able to address issues, monitor standards at the plant, and ensure the safe practices of all employees.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds of weight chest height
  • Ability to climb to heights of 40 feet
  • Forklift operation experience, a plus
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various conditions and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset
  • Must be positive, friendly, and professional
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting

  • Industrial experience - Previous experience working in an industrial setting, preferably within the asphalt field.
  • Technical skills - Ability to use equipment, hand tools, and power tools effectively
  • Mechanical aptitude - Basic understanding of mechanical elements.
  • Problem-solving skills - Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and strategize with management and maintenance teams to implement solutions.
  • Safety awareness - Commitment to following all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate professional communication in reaching out to employees and managers for needed documents
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they arise
  • Exhibit excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize various tasks and complete them in a timely manner
  • Able to perform duties independently
  • Working knowledge of aggregate plants and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred
  • Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations, a plus
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required
  • Be available for overtime, extended hours, night shifts, and weekends as required
  • Some travel may be required as our operations span throughout Texas
  • Work will be performed in both a general warehouse environment as well as a construction site environment, which could include but not be limited to inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be able to move over rough terrain on project sites
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Proper PPE is required at all times.
  • Requires periodic participation and attendance at company events and meetings
  • This position is FULL TIME
  • The pay structure for this role will be based on competitive hourly rate
  • This position will qualify for the employee benefit program

Responsibilities

  • Train in the facility processes; learn and understand the Standard Operating Procedures of the facility
  • Load and unload tank trucks carrying liquid asphalt
  • Gauge above ground storage tanks which requires climbing to the 40 foot heights
  • Perform facility rounds, and record specific data using an iPad
  • Operate a sit down forklift, unloading shipping containers
  • Barge loading and unloading
  • Participate in safety meetings and required training throughout the year
  • Adhering to all safety procedures, ensuring proper personal protective equipment usage, and reporting any safety concerns.
  • Collaboration - Working closely with management to identify and address issues impacting the facility and production.
  • Before departing work each day, ensure that the area is neat, clean and orderly; all equipment is stored in their proper place and locked up appropriately for safety.
  • Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned as needed in support of our company's effort to achieve client loyalty.
