Position Summary: Participates as a member of the perioperative nursing team. The primary focus of this position is patient, specimen and equipment transport, O.R. sanitation and assistance with maintenance of unit supply levels.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare certification.
  • None.

Responsibilities

  • Specific duties include cleaning stretchers, O.R. tables, equipment and rooms.
  • May assist the registered nurse and anesthetist in transporting postoperative patients to the recovery unit. Conveys and receives information in a timely manner.
  • Performs operating room sanitation tasks.
  • Stocks operating room with supplies.
  • Checks, counts and stocks supplies (warmers, cabinets, bovies, substerile/supply rooms, linen and bags).
  • Transports patient specimens, cultures, blood and body fluids to pathology, radiology and the laboratory.
  • Provides assistance with moving and lifting patients, supplies and equipment.
  • Reports defective material or equipment to supervisor.
  • Under the direct supervision of the Registered nurse and/or anesthesia provider, may assist with positioning of patients for procedures and performs sterile gloving without contamination and holds extremities during patient preparation.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Meets annual educational requirements.
  • Demonstrates self-direction and personal accountability for their work practice and shows responsiveness to departmental and facility needs.
  • Performs duties in a cost efficient manner.
  • Contributes to organizational effectiveness by reporting for duty on time, adhering to policies concerning rest and lunch breaks, and completes assigned duties in an effective, efficient manner.
  • Performs duties while presenting a consistent professional image in appearance, work performance and communication practices.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude when interacting with patients, their families, visitors, other employees, physicians and other associates.
  • Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary surgical healthcare team in all work settings.
  • Participates in Environments of Care activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • The PSA I must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the perioperative setting
