The Person‑In‑Charge (P.I.C.) is responsible for overseeing store operations during assigned shifts when salaried leadership is not present. This role ensures safe, efficient, and customer‑focused store operations while supporting associates and maintaining compliance with company standards. Requirements

  • Prior retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to provide leadership, direction, and support independently.
  • Understanding of basic store operations, cash handling, and safety practices.
  • Reliable, dependable, and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the acting store leader during scheduled shifts.
  • Monitor overall store conditions, including cleanliness, stocking, service, and safety.
  • Ensure all departments follow operational standards and execute assigned tasks.
  • Address urgent issues that arise during the shift and ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain a friendly, customer‑focused environment throughout the store.
  • Support associates with customer questions, escalations, and problem‑solving.
  • Ensure front‑end service expectations are met, including line management and service coverage.
  • Promote a positive shopping experience by remaining visible and accessible on the sales floor.
  • Conduct safety walks and enforce compliance with all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Respond to accidents, spills, emergencies, and potential hazards following company protocol.
  • Support cash handling standards, safe counts, and register accuracy as needed.
  • Partner with Asset Protection for potential security, theft, or shrink‑related concerns.
  • Verify store opening and closing procedures are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure associates complete required shift tasks including recovery, stocking, and cleaning.
  • Monitor in‑stock conditions and partner with departments to resolve immediate gaps.
  • Support execution of promotions, ad sets, and storewide initiatives during the shift.
  • Provide direction and guidance to associates to maintain productivity and coverage.
  • Support associate onboarding, training reinforcement, and day‑to‑day coaching.
  • Maintain professional, positive communication with all team members.
  • Document and relay shift notes, issues, or follow‑ups to salaried store leadership.
