About The Position

Responsible for assisting in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of professional and leadership development programs as well as policies and procedures. This role ensures that learning programs meet the evolving needs of the university and focuses on building both professional skills and leadership capacity across all levels. By partnering with leadership, HR, and other stakeholders, the L&OD Specialist fosters a culture of continuous learning, enhances career development opportunities, and drives employee engagement through impactful skill-building initiatives. Additionally, this role supports the recruiting lifecycle and leave administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 2 year of experience in human resources, or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience
  • Ability to interpret applicable Montana Tech and MUS procedures, policies, HR Law, and collaborative bargaining agreements.
  • Ability to establish relationships as strategic partner across campus
  • Ability to analyze and research specific issues utilizing a variety of resources
  • Excellent oral communication skills - speaks persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings. Ability to explain complex issues in a clear and easily understood manner to a wide audience.
  • Excellent written communication skills - writes informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs; presents numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.
  • Excellent customer service skills - manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; meets commitments. Ability to handle difficult or emotional situations in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and maintain a high level of efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to project neutrality and to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to convey information through trainings
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of collegiality with different campus constituencies.
  • Knowledge and experience creating and delivering supervisor/employee professional development programs
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in talent management or recruiting as a primary responsibility.
  • Experience designing and delivering professional development for staff and administrators, including management development content
  • Experience with Canvas
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Education, Organizational Development, Human resources, Business Administration or a related field.
