Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • New York State Pharmacy License or eligibility upon hire required
  • EPIC - EPIC Certification within 1 year required
  • Strong attention to detail required
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and develop critical thinking skills required
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), teamwork and follow-up skills required
  • Solid technical aptitude and an understanding of computer systems and IT functions.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft software, specifically Office and SharePoint required

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of pharmacy practice preferred
  • 1 year of training or practice in informatics. This may be completion of a post graduate training program, certificate program completion, or college course work. preferred
  • Excellent leadership, communication (verbal and written), presentation, analytical and problem solving skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the design and development of workflows utilizing pharmacy technology to optimize the safety and efficiency of the organizations medication use system.
  • Recommends, plans, evaluates and translates clinical practice, operations, policy and procedures into electronic content and workflows.
  • Configures the system and associated technology to improve operations, standardize processes, gain workflow efficiencies, improve patient care, and the patient experience.
  • Maintains responsibility for the provision of comprehensive clinical pharmacy services related to area of practice to optimize technology in the medication use system.
  • Maintains responsibility for information management, knowledge delivery, data analytics, clinical informatics, and change management.
  • Works collaboratively with the departmental leadership, cross-functional technical teams, clinicians, and health-care providers to implement and maintain the medication use system in the electronic health record and associated technology.
  • Ensures technology systems are designed and maintained in accordance with with hospital policy, organizational IT policy, industry standards, and are optimized for end-user workflow, patient care, and engagement.
  • Works with application and departmental leadership on execution of departmental and organizational strategic plans relevant to the use of technology systems.
  • Develops and communicates project plans to application teams as appropriate.
  • Maintains communication between impacted departments, including Pharmacy IT and ISD to provide updates and information regarding technology issues related to medication management.
  • Represents the application team/informatics group in meetings at URMC and affiliates.
  • Participates in discussions regarding utilization of software tools in relation to pharmacy workflows.
  • Oversees the design, implementation, testing, deployment, maintenance, and upgrade of pharmacy information and automation technology systems.
  • Maintains knowledge of applications and enhancements to maximize the safe and effective use of technology systems.
  • Defines and documents pharmacy application testing requirements.
  • Coordinates database development, updates, testing, and maintenance of the pharmacy information systems.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and maintenance of policies and procedures for the use of information systems as it pertains to pharmacologic and/or study related workflows.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of system down-time policies with departmental leaders or affiliated partners.
  • Identifies medication use system problems and troubleshoots operational issues and problems with software applications.
  • Communicates and coordinates problem solving with appropriate internal and external sources.
  • Contacts appropriate individuals for assistance when solution is beyond expertise or authority.
  • Provides thorough follow-up with affected customers from issue identification to issue resolution.
  • Assists application leads in creation of communication plans as necessary.
  • Advises pharmacy management on impact of information/automation system issues on patient care and department operations.
  • Coordinates ongoing assessment of hardware needs to ensure maximum benefit of the systems.
  • Maintains a personal and professional commitment to ongoing development and service through active engagement in professional organizations, industry best practices, specialty boards, industry or professional organization events.
  • Participates in the training of future generations of pharmacists and analysts by serving as a preceptor for pharmacy residency training programs offered at the University of Rochester Medical Center, contributes to student training experiences for IPPE and APPE rotations as assigned, and provides didactic lectures, case studies, and other interactive teaching programs to pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, and pharmacists.
  • Participates in or serves on departmental, hospital, and URMC/UR Medicine and Affiliate committees or task forces.
  • Provides educational support as requested by nursing, medical/surgical residents, students training in allied health professions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
