About The Position

The Pharmacy Supply Chain Manager oversees the ordering, receipt, and distribution of medications for all inpatient and outpatient facilities, including off-campus clinics. To ensure high-quality patient care at a low cost, they supervise daily purchasing, inventory control, and returns management. Key responsibilities include managing formulary updates, branded-to-generic conversions, waste monitoring, and product recalls.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Registered or eligible as pharmacy technician with Alabama Board of Pharmacy
  • National Certification Pharmacy Technician by PTCB or ExCPT
  • 3 years of pharmacy purchasing experience required
  • Proficient utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software applications
  • Ability to create and analyze reports from various information systems and applications
  • Must be pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude.
  • Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfill obligations.
  • Must be able to file and maintain records.

Responsibilities

  • Vendor Management: Oversees contract compliance, optimizes group purchasing organization (GPO) resources, and monitors vendor performance, product, and label quality.
  • Business Process Outsourcing: Manages third-party re-packagers (focusing on turnaround times and label/barcode compliance), directs third-party compounders, and advises on make-versus-buy decisions.
  • Inventory Optimization: Manages the non-formulary ordering process, initiates branded-to-generic conversions, and sets appropriate stock levels (par levels).
  • Inventory Integrity: Initiates requests for commodity numbers via Pharmacy Informatics and oversees monthly and annual inventory cycle counts across all pharmacy locations.
  • 340B Program Compliance: Collaborates with the 340B team to ensure inventory compliance, providing necessary data and reports to optimize program-related purchasing.
  • Receiving: Resolves invoicing/pricing errors, supervises the matching of purchase orders with packing slips, and escalates any mismatches with distributors and manufacturers.
  • Accounting Compliance: Reviews interdepartmental charges to balance issues and receipts and assists finance in matching invoices for the monthly close process.
  • Service Level Maintenance: Reconciles medication exchanges with non-DCH pharmacies, acts as the Supply Chain representative on the Medication Management Committee, and liaises with manufacturers regarding drug supply availability.
  • Issues and Transfers: Collaborates with hospital supply chain and transportation teams to ensure timely and complete delivery of orders to all main and off-campus facilities.
  • DSCSA (Drug Supply Chain Security Act): Oversees compliance with DSCSA regulations and works with stakeholders to ensure all requirements and guidelines are in place.
  • Recalls: Supervises the entire drug recall process, including monitoring alerts, prompting action, tracking escalation, and confirming closure.
  • Waste Management/Reverse Distribution/Hazardous Medications: Oversees waste capture infrastructure, coordinates reverse distribution through a third party, and collaborates with Environmental Services for disposal of non-reversible medications.
  • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
