The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient role is based in Building C on the second floor at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, located between the operating room and an ICU within a busy, 256-bed inpatient setting. This pharmacy supports a high-volume operation with a team of approximately 18 pharmacy technicians, 20 pharmacists, and on-site management, and caregivers interact closely with nurses, pharmacists, buyers, and fellow technicians throughout the day. The role offers a high level of autonomy while working in close collaboration with pharmacists and includes responsibilities such as medication picking, receiving and handling narcotics, triaging workflow needs, answering phones, managing re-dispenses, and responding to the pharmacy door. The team culture is hardworking, reliable, and patient-centered, with a shared focus on accuracy, responsiveness, and delivering safe, timely medication support to inpatient care teams. A caregiver in this position works a 7-on, 7-off schedule. Wednesday through Saturday hours are 11:00am to 9:30pm, Sunday through Tuesday hours are 11:00am to 11:30pm and holiday expectations are 2-3 holidays per year.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon or within 18 months of hire
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
  • Six months of hospital experience
  • Prior Inpatient experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
