The Pharmacy Technician – Oncology supports safe and accurate oncology medication preparation by compounding sterile preparations throughout the day while assisting with inventory management and ordering of medications and supplies. This role collaborates closely with fellow pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and nursing staff to support timely, high-quality patient care in a specialized oncology setting. A caregiver in this role will work Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm. No weekend, no holidays and no on call expectations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Current licensure in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 18 months of hire
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
  • Six months of hospital experience
  • Prior experience with IV compounding
  • Prior experience with compounding hazardous medications and utilizing CSTDs

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventory of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training.
  • Use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
