The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- PTCB or NHA Certification required
- New York State Pharmacy Technician license required
- Basic computer skills
- 2 – 3 years pharmacy experience preferred, but not required
Responsibilities
- Replenishes floor stock medications on nursing units accurately, fills floor stock requests accurately and maintains appropriate documentation
- Identifies medications no longer in use in on units, returns medications to pharmacy, and appropriately manages such medications
- Assists in receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations
- Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date
- Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations
- Completes and documents monthly inspections of all assigned medication storage areas in a timely and comprehensive manner. Inspection assignments are completed without supervisor intervention
- Assists with Pyxis inventory
- Pre-pack medications in ready to use format
- Fills mediation cassettes
