About The Position

Responsible for unit dose distribution including familiarity with medications, dosage forms and storage requirements. May also compound sterile and non-sterile medication preparations. Communicates with pharmacists and nursing staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of medications. Delivers medications, including controlled substances, to nursing areas and ancillary departments in accordance with established policies and procedures, and DEA and DPH regulations. Serves as a subject matter expert in an area of inpatient pharmacy technician practice. Job Description: Essential Responsibilities: Restocks automated dispensing machines (ADSs) and floor stock medications. Follows relevant Epic workflows including but not limited to loading medications, dispensing doses, dispense tracking, and fulfilling carts fill items. Delivers all medication in compliance with all DEA, DPH & State Board of Pharmacy regulations Prepares and delivers IV medications in accordance with Federal USP 797 & USP 800 standards. Maintains records pertaining to IV admixtures, maintains cleanliness in sterile areas, and completes relevant Quality Assurance processes. Compounds non-sterile products and repackages bulk supplies of medications in unit of use packaging in accordance with all Federal USP 795 & USP 800 standards. Checks for expired medications within the pharmacy & automated dispensing cabinets. Ensures that all expired/damaged medications are disposed of in accordance with RCRA, OSHA & NIOSH regulations. Prepares specialized sterile products including TPNs, neonatal, hazardous, and chemotherapeutic & study medications in accordance with Federal USP 797, USP 795, & USP 800 standards. Suggests workflow efficiencies and works with the Technician III staff and Lead technicians to help implement new practices 8. Maintain staffing in two or more areas of the pharmacy Responsible for initial training of new staff in all sterile and/or non-sterile compounding practices. Training includes clean room operations, documentation and QA, and all areas of compounding including, but not limited to, Category 1 and 2 sterile compounding, neonatal product compounding, hazardous drug compounding including antineoplastic medications. Responsible for initial training of new staff in central pharmacy operations. Tasks include, but are not limited to, automated dispensing system (ADS) responsibilities, monitoring stock reports, restocking and expiration date checking. Assists in the development and maintenance of training objectives and manuals across areas of the pharmacy. Meets on a regular basis in collaboration with the Lead technicians and Managers to continually develop and maintain operational goals and standards. Participates as a content leader in an area for onboarding and training while providing mentorships to students and pharmacy technicians

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • License Mass Registered Pharmacy Tech required., and Certificate 1 Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Certificate 2 EXCPT required.
  • Employee must remain in good standing with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy including maintenance of registration and fees.
  • 2-5 years related work experience required.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years experience as a hospital pharmacy technician.
  • Ability to perform simple and complex pharmaceutical calculation
