About The Position

This position will work with the prescription assistance program (PAP). This is a position that would support other PAP Advocates at multiple clinics so travel will be imperative (Primarily Ft Worth and Irving, but sometimes Dallas as well). Pharmacy Tech 1 PRN (Day Shift M-F) – Community Care Clinics (Ambulatory) This unique pharmacy technician position will serve as a Prescription Assistance Program (PAP) Advocate. Duties include assisting with program management and serving as the point of contact between patients, internal staff, external programs, and pharmaceutical companies. This role will support multiple clinics and will require traveling to various Community Care Clinic locations in the DFW Metroplex (Dallas, Ft Worth, Irving & Plano). Therefore, the ability and willingness to travel to all locations, have a valid driver's license, and reliable transportation are essential. The organization does provide mileage reimbursement for travel outside of your normal assigned work location. A bilingual candidate would be ideal, as over 80% of the patients served in our clinics speak Spanish. The Pharmacy Technician 1, supervised by a Pharmacist, provides pharmacy services, manages inventory, and delivers care as per TSBP regulations.

Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel to all locations, have a valid driver's license, and reliable transportation are essential.
  • Basic knowledge of Pharmacy Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, terminology, drug use and aseptic techniques, standards and equipment.
  • Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow instructions and flow chart protocols.
  • Ability to sort, check, count and verify numbers.
  • Ability to follow established safety, infection control, environmental and isolation practices and procedures at all times.
  • Excellent social skills required to interact effectively with patients and staff.
  • General computer skills include using software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.
  • H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Less than 1 Year of Experience
  • Pharmacy Technician (PHT), Pharmacy Intern (RPH-INT): Must have one of the following issued by the TX Board of Pharmacy:
  • Pharmacy Tech (PHT) license
  • Pharmacy Tech (PHT) intern license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and assist uninsured, underinsured, and indigent patients with the submission of applications for prescription assistance programs offered by pharmaceutical manufacturers. Advocate will ensure applications are completed accurately and in their entirety for all necessary information and signatures.
  • Analyze eligibility criteria and enrollment requirements, reviewing information for pharmaceutical companies to enroll patients in prescription assistance programs.
  • Input and track data regarding the status of applications using the Epic EMR and MedData software.
  • Generate refill reports and order medication refills promptly.
  • Communicate with patients about the status of their applications and medication arrival.
  • Provide updates and address any patient inquiries.
  • Receive, check-in, document, and update medication records in the system.
  • Assist with the patient pickup process for medications.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, internal staff, providers, and external sponsors regarding program details and application status.
  • Perform duties as directed and follow BSWH policies and procedures.
  • Ensure medication names, dosages, and quantities match Epic EMR for accuracy.
  • Control drug inventory, maintain accurate records of drug disposal through the inventory management system, and maintain current drug information.
  • Maintain accurate temperature logs for refrigerators and freezers.
  • Performs limited pharmacy services and duties associated with the stocking, preparation, labeling, dispensing and delivery of medications.
  • Helps patients and medical staff with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.
  • Answers incoming phone calls. Responds to the caller's needs or directs them to the right person for service.
  • Communicates promptly with team members when inventory is low. Helps with drug purchasing and inventory control, like ordering and receiving medications and supplies.
  • Performs designated tasks concerning pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of order for drugs.
  • Enter medication orders from doctors' sheets or prescriptions. Fill according to the label, ensuring the correct product is dispensed. Ensure the dosage form and charge quantity match the formulary. Enter correct billing data and be accountable for medication charges and credits.
  • Resolves discrepancies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing machine (ADM).
  • Cleans and helps maintain equipment and work area; sterilizes glassware according to established procedures.
