About The Position

The Phlebotomist PRN at Palo Pinto General Hospital plays a critical role in the collection of blood specimens necessary for accurate laboratory testing and diagnosis. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
  • Current driver's license and vehicle liability insurance required.
  • Demonstrated experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection in a clinical setting.
  • Enters visits and test requisitions on all patient types.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent from a recognized certifying body.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Additional certifications related to laboratory safety or patient care.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience in patient-facing roles.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all ages with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Performs bedside glucose (waived) testing.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling and handling of specimens to maintain chain of custody and prevent errors.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterility of equipment and work areas, following hospital and laboratory safety standards.
  • Document all procedures accurately in patient records and communicate effectively with nursing and laboratory staff regarding specimen status.
  • Adhere to all regulatory and hospital policies related to patient confidentiality, infection control, and workplace safety.
