Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a phlebotomist in a high-volume setting required
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in performing Electrocardiogram, Holter monitor.
  • Must be able to read and interpret orders in order to draw correct tests.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors to determine appropriate tubes.
  • Must be able to bend to draw from patients sitting in phlebotomy chairs.
  • Must be able to physically access certain parts of the building within a reasonable amount of time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Ensures all phlebotomy specimens, EKG and Holter monitors are collected and performed accurately and on time according to the established procedures.
  • Complete requisitions accurately.
  • Patient profile review.
  • Verifies tests ordered and obtains accurate billing information, i.e. diagnosis codes, etc.
  • Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
  • Packages specimens for transport.
  • Responsible for following departmental guidelines on universal precautions and hazardous waste guidelines.
  • Perform CLIA waived testing; Urinalysis, ESR Strep A screen and influenza screen.
  • Perform basic clerical duties Prints lab schedules and manages lab orders in LIS
  • Delivering all stats that are drawn back to the Laboratory.
  • Ensures facilities are neat, clean and in good repair.
  • Communicate professionally with patients to resolve and document problems; prepare problem documentation and report critical issues as they occur.
  • Coordinate the work of phlebotomists in the PMG labs.
  • Communicate schedule changes due to employee call-outs in absence of Lab Manager and provide alternate coverage for employees when needed.
  • Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data.
  • Assist supervisor with the implementation of SOP's for phlebotomy services in accordance with guidelines.
  • Perform site visits as assigned by Lab Manager, and documented findings.
  • Assist with audits as directed by Manager.
  • Responsible for department inventory and ordering supplies for each area, to include need and adequate stock with minimal waste due to expiration.
  • Coordinate with the Stock Room and outside vendors
  • Participates on teams and special projects when asked.
  • Facilitate training and coaching of phlebotomists as directed by the Lab Manager.
  • Prepare schedules phlebotomists and submit to the Lab Manager for approval in a timely fashion.
  • Reads, understands and complies with departmental policies, Protocol and Procedures (i.e Procedure Manuals, OSHA Manual, Employee handbook).
  • Attendance is an essential component of the job.
