Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Experience with blood draws, injections, rooming patients, med refills, etc.
  • One-year experience as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in a clinical setting
  • Utilize the computer system skillfully, responsibly, and resourcefully.
  • Possesses the skills to perform basic functions related to test requesting. Possesses the skills to alter test requests and associated billing.
  • Be familiar with computer downtime and recovery procedure.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform basic functions in an electronic medical record
  • Possesses the skills to perform basic functions related to patient demographics, data access, pending work, printing of labels, and reports.
  • Good knowledge of test menu and ability to manage requisitions/orders.
  • Familiar with the basic functions of the clinical laboratory including its methods, procedures, practices, and terminology.
  • Active participation in safety awareness and compliance through monitors and/or tours.
  • Active participation in performance improvement monitors and surveys in the Phlebotomy Section
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week
  • 8AM-5PM Monday – Friday

Nice To Haves

  • Department of Transportation urine and Breath Alcohol Test certification preferred but not required.
  • CMA certification from the NHA, NAHP, AAMA, or NCCT.

Responsibilities

  • Collects specimens from patients, which may include blood, urine and any material for biological and chemical analysis.
  • May also be required to help lab and/or clinic management staff in additional duties for the lab/clinic to function efficiently and provide care for patients and staff, specifically clinical duties typically assigned to a certified medical assistant.
  • May also be required to assist in scheduling, ordering supplies, inventory control, training, and other duties to assist department management.
