At Applied Materials, our innovations make possible the technology shaping the future. Applied Materials’ Corporate CTO office is searching for an intern to join our team in summer 2026! We focus on developing new materials and devices for emerging markets by harnessing our state-of-the-art materials engineering processing capabilities. We are looking for the best talent to join us this summer to develop the next generation photonic interconnect technologies.

Requirements

  • Student must be pursuing a Ph. D. degree program in EE, Physics, MSE or a related field.
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Experience in optoelectronic device or optical communication; experience in optical modeling preferred.
  • Experience in cleanroom device fabrication.
  • Good communication and presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Model, design, and develop new device, structure, and integration for new photonic interconnects.
  • Conduct literature survey to identity device performance improvement schemes; work with process and integration team to test the feasibility of such schemes.
  • Perform electrical, optical, speed and power characterization for new photonic devices; benchmark with state-of-art commercial devices.
  • Document process and integration best-known methods; prepare presentations and reports.
