Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program (APTA) and holder of an Associate’s Degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Strong knowledge of normal human growth and development across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and patient‑centered care.
  • Ability to read, understand, analyze, and interpret medical record documentation.
  • Proven skills in organization, planning, follow‑through, problem solving, and stress tolerance.
  • Ability to apply logical reasoning, critical thinking, and strategic judgment when addressing a wide range of clinical and operational challenges.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and support referral growth opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with the healthcare team, supervisors, coworkers, and leadership.
  • Completion of all mandatory system, business unit, facility, and department-specific competencies and orientations.
  • May work in clinical spaces where medications are stored; however, no direct medication handling is permitted in this role.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (AHA-approved, including didactic and skills demonstration) required within 30 days of hire.
  • Active Physical Therapist Assistant license (or PTA Indirect Supervision license) as required by the practicing state.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance with renewal.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Check with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance with renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled physical therapy treatments in alignment with the Physical Therapist’s plan of care.
  • Recommend adjustments in treatment based on patient progress and response.
  • Assist with patient transport in a safe, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
  • Direct therapy volunteers and assist with clerical responsibilities as needed.
  • Rotate through treatment areas/facilities when required to support department needs.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, in-services, and department committees.
  • Provide—and appropriately supervise—clinical support staff per state Physical Therapy Practice Act requirements.
  • Deliver comprehensive therapeutic interventions for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the scope of practice.
  • Assist PTs in patient surveys and assessments within permitted scope.
  • Complete accurate charges and statistical information reflecting services provided.
  • Maintain thorough and compliant electronic documentation, including changes in patient status, cancellations, and interventions administered.
  • Request and provide timely, constructive feedback to supervisors to support continuous improvement.
  • Meet or exceed productivity expectations set by the facility.
  • Implement treatment programs that reflect current evidence‑based practice, adjusting care as patient status or response to therapy changes—and promptly communicating those changes to the Physical Therapist.
