About The Position

The Physical Therapist Assistant/PTA assists a Physical Therapist in a Skilled Nursing Facility environment with a patient's rehabilitative activities to help reduce pain and improve mobility. Assists in exercise instruction and demonstration, nursing home patient evaluation and testing. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum education level of an associate degree from an accredited program.
  • License Certification by New York State Office of the Professions and practices Physical Therapy according to the state requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct Physical therapy services according to directions of the Physical Therapist and in accordance with the physician's plan of care. These exclude evaluation, reevaluation and MDS scoring but include hands off screenings.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the Physical Therapist responses to treatment and any changes in the resident's/patient's condition.
  • Treats the resident/patient in accordance with the care plan after the Physical Therapist performs the initial evaluation to establish treatment goals, frequency, duration, and specific modalities to be used in accordance with the physician's orders with the Physical Therapist.
  • Follows treatment program and goal for improved resident/patient function as established by the Physical Therapist
  • Submits appropriate written report of the resident's/patient's progress at the designated intervals to the physician and/or the Physical Therapist.
  • Consults with Physical Therapist to make necessary changes to plan, frequency, and duration of treatment.
  • Adheres to all applicable federal, state, local, and facility-maintained standards of care and ethics and policies concerned with the practice of Physical Therapy and among other things, personnel qualifications.
  • Participates in staff development and in-service education activities.
  • Meets productivity and utilization expectations as established by the company.
  • Completes timely clinical documentation to include functional goal setting, progress, and therapeutic approach.
  • Completes administrative, billing, clinical documentation, and reports in a timely manner and accurately.
  • Follows established policies and procedures or the company.
  • Maintains Physical Therapy equipment.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with patient, resident, and staff.
