About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) will function as an integral member of the surgical team, providing advanced practitioner support in the pre- and post-operative settings, inpatient/outpatient care areas and operating room. The provider will work closely with surgeons, residents, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care. This position will be somewhat specialty-specific, focusing on assigned surgical subspecialties, but will also require cross-training to provide coverage in the absence of residents or a surgeon’s primary physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Key Responsibilities: Clinical and Surgical Duties: Assist the surgeon in preparation for surgery Conduct pre- and post-operative patient evaluations, rounds, and documentation. Order and interpret diagnostic tests as appropriate and communicate findings to the surgical team. Provide cross-coverage in the Medical Group and support across specialties as appropriate . Participate in the development and implementation of patient care plans. Assists during surgical procedures, following all applicable standards and protocols. Perform wound closure, dressing application, and post-operative care as directed by the attending surgeon Operational Responsibilities: Monitor and optimize patient flow in inpatient and outpatient settings to reduce delays and improve throughput. Collaborate with scheduling teams to ensure efficient use of operating room time and resources. Support compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements. Administrative and Educational Duties: Maintain accurate and timely medical records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. Participate in ongoing education, training, and skills development to maintain cross-specialty competency. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and departmental goals.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current, valid state license (PA or NP) and appropriate certification (NCCPA or ANCC/AANP).
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications .
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient positioning and transfers in and outside of surgical room, inpatient and outpatient environment.
  • Flexibility to meet scheduling and on-call requirements, including occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of surgical or perioperative experience preferred.
