Job Summary: The Inpatient Physician Assistant (PA) provides medical care to hospitalized patients under the supervision of a physician within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. This role supports patient care across Family Medicine, Orthopedics, Physical Therapy, and Rehabilitation services by assisting with evaluations, treatment planning, and coordination of care during hospitalization. The PA works closely with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care that promotes recovery and improved mobility.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Active DEA license or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with musculoskeletal evaluations, post-operative care, and rehabilitation coordination is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient assessments, obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, and document clinical findings for hospitalized patients.
  • Assist in managing inpatient medical and musculoskeletal conditions, including post-surgical orthopedic care and rehabilitation needs.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as laboratory studies, imaging, and other evaluations to support clinical decision-making.
  • Participate in daily patient rounds with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Assist in developing and implementing treatment plans focused on recovery, pain management, mobility improvement, and discharge readiness.
  • Perform procedures such as wound care, suturing, injections, splinting, and other appropriate bedside treatments.
  • Coordinate care with Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation teams to support functional recovery and safe discharge planning.
  • Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with state regulations and hospital policies.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, recovery expectations, and rehabilitation goals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and ensure compliance with hospital protocols and clinical standards.
