About The Position

Exciting opportunity to join Endeavor Health in the Inpatient Department of General Surgery covering general surgery, urology, and vascular surgery patients. Under the direction of the collaborating physician(s), provides care to patients. Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations, orders imaging, lab tests and diagnostic procedures and interprets results. Instructs patients on the prescribed therapeutic regimen and pre/post operative instructions. Maintains records and writes progress notes on status, treatments and procedures. Follows patients through their course of treatment in the hospital setting. Collaborates with physicians and the health care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies as appropriate. Demonstrates evidence-based practice. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice in the specialty. Assesses the learning needs of patients and families across the continuum. Employs strategies, interventions and teaching to promote, maintain, and improve health. Provide comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and prescribe treatments under the protocol in the direct management of acute and chronic illness and disease. Promotes wellness and prevent illness and injury in various settings for individuals, families, and communities. Works autonomously and in interdisciplinary teams as resources and consultants. Positively contributes to safety outcomes and promoting high quality patient experience. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of service line goals. Supports the strategic plan of the organization. Adheres to all Endeavor Health policies and procedures. Provide comprehensive health care services for a diverse patient population in close collaboration with a team of surgeons and APPs. Evaluate, diagnose, and treat general surgery, urology, and vascular surgery patients. Provide surgical care for patients in various settings – emergency room, operating room, post-op, and non-op inpatient. First assist in emergent operations for general surgery, vascular surgery, urology, as well as first assist with cesarean sections. Perform therapeutic procedures such as, but not limited to, bedside wound debridement, I&Ds, difficult catheter placements, catheter irrigation, NGT placements, etc. Work collaboratively with various health care providers throughout the system

Requirements

  • License: Physician Assistant (PA) Licensure in the State of IL required
  • Federal DEA and Illinois Controlled Substance License required
  • Education: Completion of master’s level program in specialty area
  • Certification: BLS/CPR for Healthcare Provider certification required
  • Experience: One year of Physician Assistant experience preferred, but new graduates welcomed to apply/willing to train
  • Special Knowledge and Skills Required: n/a

  • Surgical experience preferred, but willing to train motivated individuals and new graduates
