About The Position

The Physician & Internal Medicine (IM) Core Faculty member is responsible for providing medical services for the patients of Heart of Florida Health Center while playing an integral role in the education and professional development of residents in the UCF/HCA Ocala Internal Medicine Residency Program. This position will provide high-quality outpatient care while supervising, mentoring, and evaluating residents in the community clinic setting. The position emphasizes teaching evidence-based medicine, fostering clinical excellence, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the residency program.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of a residency program in a specialty area, if applicable.
  • Must have an active, unrestricted Florida State Medical License (or eligible for licensure).
  • Current BLS Certificate from an accredited AHA or American Red Cross provider
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in outpatient internal medicine preferred.
  • Maintain continuing medical education credits to stay current in field and fulfill licensure requirements.
  • Complete credentialing process as required by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of primary care principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) and medical software.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior academic or teaching experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and precept Internal Medicine residents in the outpatient continuity clinic.
  • Provide direct patient care within the outpatient practice, maintaining an appropriate clinical load.
  • Coordinate outpatient clinical schedule with program director.
  • Demonstrate best practices in patient-centered care, population health management, and chronic disease management.
  • Ensure clinical documentation, coding, and compliance standards are met.
  • Model professionalism and ethical behavior in all patient and staff interactions.
  • Teach and mentor residents in outpatient internal medicine, preventive care, and management of common chronic and acute conditions.
  • Participate in resident evaluation, feedback, and competency-based assessment processes.
  • Contribute to didactic sessions, case conferences, journal clubs, and other structured teaching activities.
  • Support resident scholarly activity and quality improvement projects.
  • Participate in curriculum development and ongoing program improvement activities in collaboration with the Program Director and other core faculty.
  • Attend faculty meetings, Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) meetings, and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) meetings as assigned.
  • Assist in resident recruitment and selection processes.
  • Maintain compliance with ACGME and institutional policies related to faculty and resident education.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional teams to improve patient outcomes and support quality initiatives.
  • Uphold the organization’s mission, vision, and values in all aspects of patient care and teaching.
  • Engage in professional development and maintain board certification and licensure requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
