About The Position

MPF Federal is seeking a qualified Physician – Internist to support the Internal Medicine Clinic at Navy Medical Center San Diego . This position is designated as mission essential and requires onsite clinical support during all scheduled clinic hours, including federally recognized holidays and any holidays declared by Presidential Executive Order. The Physician – Internist will provide comprehensive, evidence-based internal medicine care and preventive health services in accordance with clinical privileges granted by the MTF, applicable command policies, and accepted standards of medical practice. Work Schedule & Hours Hours of Performance: Monday through Friday between 0700 and 1800 Work Schedule (Typical): Monday through Friday, 0730 to 1630 (8 hours/day) Shift Length: Flexible 8.5 to 13-hour shifts, including an uncompensated 30–60 minute meal break Core Responsibilities The Physician – Internist will provide services within the scope of practice and clinical privileges granted by the MTF, including but not limited to: Adult Primary Care & Internal Medicine Services Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF Examine, diagnose, treat, and prescribe courses of treatment within scope of training, experience, and privileges Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, promotion of positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling Provide internal medicine care to adult patients with acute and chronic conditions consistent with clinic scope Diagnostics, Referrals, and Care Coordination Order diagnostic tests as applicable and interpret results within scope of privileges Request consultations or referrals with appropriate physicians, clinics, or health resources as indicated Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams to support continuity of care and patient outcomes Teaching, Training, and Professional Support Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of clinical privileges or responsibilities Provide educational lectures and participate in in-service training to clinic staff members Maintain technical proficiency in directing and teaching other medical staff, adhering to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted protocols Documentation & Health Information Systems Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care Operate and maintain proficiency with automated systems including CHCS, AHLTA, ADS, Essentris, MHS GENESIS, CIS , and other clinical information systems as required Maintain DOD email account as directed and respond to email and voicemail communications in a timely manner Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives; records must be legible and use only approved abbreviations Performance Improvement & Compliance Maintain productivity comparable with peers performing similar services Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities Practice aseptic techniques as necessary and comply with infection control guidelines, including universal precautions and proper handling/disposal of infectious waste Function with awareness and application of safety procedures Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, documenting events, and escalating issues as needed Apply awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and manage situations in a reduced-risk manner Participate in implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed, including examination, documentation, and reporting Attend and/or comply with all annual training required by the Command, including disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, CBRNE, and other required training Actively participate in the Command Performance Improvement Program and attend meetings as directed Exercise appropriate delegation in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities Requirements Competencies Strong clinical judgment across adult acute and chronic disease management Ability to manage a primary care panel and meet access standards as required Effective care coordination, referral management, and documentation skills Ability to respond effectively to emergent clinical issues Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based care Strong communication skills for patient education, counseling, and team collaboration Minimum Qualifications Education Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) Graduate of an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada (or foreign equivalent meeting U.S. equivalency requirements such as ECFMG certification, Fifth Pathway, or USMLE completion as applicable) Internship/Residency Successful completion of an internship and Internal Medicine residency approved by ACGME or the AOA (or recognized U.S./Canada accrediting equivalent) At least one (1) year of supervised clinical experience providing direct patient care (internship or first year of residency) Experience Must meet service-specific credentialing clinical competency requirements Must include at least 32 hours of patient treatment within Internal Medicine in the last 24 months Board Certification Board Certified in Internal Medicine or eligible to test for Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Licensure/Privileging Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine as required in the Task Order Must meet privileging requirements per the most current version of AFI 44-119, Medical Quality Operations Must furnish the MTF Credentialing Office copies of valid licenses, registrations, education/training, and certifications as required Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: HCWs must meet U.S. work authorization requirements as defined by the Department of Homeland Security / U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, including: U.S. citizen or noncitizen national, lawful permanent resident, or alien authorized to work in the United States.
