Physician – Correctional Health 1200 Clinic (12-Hour Nights)
About The Position
Harris Health System is seeking a Physician to join the Correctional Health team at the 1200 Clinic for 12-hour night shifts . This role offers the opportunity to work in a high-impact, mission-driven environment , providing comprehensive care to individuals housed in the Harris County Jail. Responsibilities include performing intake health assessments , managing urgent and chronic care conditions , and collaborating with advanced practice providers and interdisciplinary teams. You will work closely with Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies , nursing staff, and on-site services such as radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, dental, and nutrition services. You will also coordinate with external hospitals when higher-level care is required and ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Board Certified or Board-Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine
- Must obtain and maintain board certification within required timeframe
- Active Texas Medical Board license
- Active DEA license
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited 3- or 4-year residency program
- Proficiency in suturing, splinting, and EKG interpretation
- Strong clinical judgment and patient care skills
- Above Average Verbal (heavy public contact)
- Exceptional verbal communication (public speaking)
- Strong written communication (correspondence and reports)
- Computer proficiency
- Analytical abilities
- Mathematics and medical terminology
- Research knowledge and capabilities
