About The Position

Keene State College invites applications for a piano administrator to ensure the proper care of its Steinway piano fleet. The purpose of this position is to fulfill the service duties that Christina Wright-Ivanova previously managed as full-time coordinator of keyboard studies at Keene State College. The college became an All-Steinway School in 2024, and we are bound to the requirements of that contract to maintain our fleet of Steinway pianos with regard to regular maintenance and tuning as well as anticipating upcoming needs. This is a multi-faceted service position that is necessary to make sure the college is fulfilling the requirements of its All-Steinway contract and is taking proper care of its entire fleet of pianos in order to ensure its longevity.

Requirements

  • Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The employee in this position must be a pianist with solid organizational skills, who can interface with various constituents about the maintenance needs of our piano fleet and be able to understand the jargon and vernacular associated with pianos.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination of piano maintenance and tuning needs (70%): Work with Patrick Branstetter to confirm a piano tuning schedule Ensure performance pianos are tuned before events according to Music Department calendar Serve as the point person for receiving information about piano maintenance or tuning issues Be in communication with department chair and piano maintenance team to confirm resolution of maintenance or tuning issues Help the Music Department hone specific needs with regard to maintenance of its piano fleet Communicate with Patrick Branstetter to anticipate upcoming piano maintenance needs based on longevity and regular upkeep over time for each piano
  • Regular communication and meetings with KSC Purchasing about updates to new pianos, serial numbers, room allocation, and inventory status reports (10%): Serve as point person for KSC Purchasing about information they may need to college Contact KSC Purchasing with any updates related to piano inventory
  • Conversations with Patrick Elisha (from Steinerts) about our All-Steinway status, conversations about humidity (10%): Be in regular communication with Steinway representative, currently Patrick Elisha, to ensure All-Steinway status is being met Troubleshoot any issues or needs that arise, in communication with Patrick Elisha, Patrick Branstetter, and Music Department chair Communicate with Patrick Elisha to ensure opportunities for trainings and maximum use of the Spirio technology
  • Organization of student workers for humidity control in our practice rooms (10%): Ensure that the piano humidity systems are being maintained by assigned student workers Arrange for alternate student workers in the event that any student is not fulfilling their duties properly, as piano humidity is an important component of the health of our pianos that cannot lapse
